BRIGADIER I D CHOLERTON CBE Brigadier Iain Cholerton was born in Germany in 1956 and commissioned into the Royal Regiment of Wales (24th/41st Foot) in August 1975. After completing a degree in Economics at Nottingham University he joined the 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Wales and served in a various appointments in Northern Ireland, the Gulf, the Balkans and a number other theatres worldwide. A graduate of the German Armed Forces Staff College in Hamburg he was Military Assistant to the Commander of the ACE Rapid Reaction Corps, Military Assistant to the Commander of UN operations in Bosnia and a Directing Staff at Staff College. He commanded 1 RRW from September 1997 until January 2000 which included Public Duties in London and operations in Northern Ireland and Bosnia. Before attending The Royal College of Defence Studies in London in 2003 he served for three years in the Defence Intelligence Staff (DIS). His subsequent appointment was Commander 160 (Wales) Brigade, responsible for the Army in Wales until December 2006 when he assumed command of the International Military Advisory and Training Team (Sierra Leone). He was awarded the CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2007 for his service in Wales. He returned to the DIS in January 2008 as Director Intelligence Operations, responsible for intelligence support to operations worldwide. He was appointed Honorary Colonel of Wales UOTC by Her Majesty The Queen in March 2008. He is married to Karen and they have two teenage daughters. He enjoys riding with his family and most outdoor activities. |
